NEW - VINICA 2007 !
VINICA is the wine, which “ZAGREUS” winery is going to make as its trade mark
and symbol. It is named after the village where the family Kostadinovi, who established
the winery, is coming from and where our vineyards are planted.
The technology for vinification of VINICA is still not familiar to Bulgaria.
It is adopted from Italy where the famous wine Amarone is produced in a similar
way. Therefore the grapes are gathered in trays before the full ripeness is achieved
in order to enable air drying. Then they are dried for 2 - 3 months, in which
the water vaporates and the sugar and the other substances are going to concentrate.
After the grape achieves the desired state it is processed. The result is a very
impressive, dense and full-bodied wine with incredible potential.
VINICA vintage 2007 is made 100% from the local grape Mavrud.
WHITE MAVRUD 2008!
 White wine from Marud, this sounds strange. In Bulgaria someone might think,
that we have manipulated there wellknown and favourite grape. But we didn't and
want to tell you, that the production of white wine out of a red grape was already
done in other places of this world. And now you can buy such a wine in Bulgaria,
especially out of tmost bulgarian sort - Mavrud. Read more...

Who is Zagreus?
The Greek god of wine Dionysus descends from ancient Balkan deity. He can be
recognized under different names and presumably the Thracians called him Zagreus.The
name of Zagreus - the Thracian Dionysus - according to the Greek translation means
son of the earth and the sky.The legend retells that Zeus disguised as snake coupled
with Persephone. Zagreus was born from this union and later torn to pieces and
eaten by the titans. Zeus then blasted the Titans to ashes with his thunderbolt,
and from the ashes came mankind.The idea for the name of the winery "Zagreus"
sprang from the recently found consecrated tile from the Dionysus cult.The consecrated
tile was found in a cave - a womb and an ancient temple of the Thracians, where
the divine mysteries were carried out also famous as Dionysus orgies.The Thracians
carried out this ritual in the beginning of the spring. According to our Christian
calendar these feasts come between 14th of February and the first Sunday before
Lent. |

On the 14th of February we celebrated the annual Festival of Saint Trifon. Many friends and customers were celebrating with us, when we cutted the vines
